GRAND FINALE PAL CASE CONTEST Exhibition in Dutch Design Center On October 27, the PAL CASE Contest had its grand finale in the Dutch Design Center, the perfect location for this event. The Contest inspired no less than fifty-nine international designers to create a ‘case’ for the PAL Radio. De Volkskrant, one of the three largest National newspapers, dedicated a lenghty article to this exciting design competition. The jury prizes were handed to the winners by Tivoli Audio CEO Tom DeVesto, who was visibly impressed by the amazing quality of the contestants’ creations. The Winners The jury assigned their five prices to the following designs: 1st Place: RoverPAL (shown on left), created by Jim TerMeer & Jess Giffin (USA; www.p32.com), a PAL on caterpillar tracks. 2nd Place: Too Hot, a design by Patricia van Lubeck (New Zealand; www.vanlubeck.com), showing a melting PAL. 3rd Place: The Dorade PAL was made by the Stainless Steel Company (Netherlands). 4th Place: Out of Africa, a Dutch creation, was inspired by the movie of the same name. 5th Place: Sjoerd Visser’s PAL Pointless is protected by no less than 1800 pencil points. Public Award Amsterdam Furnishing Show 2006 Close to twelve hundred visitors of the recent Amsterdam Furnishing Show voted for their favorite designs. Winner of this Public Award is the PAL Vase, by Rebecca Potger (www.potgerdesign.com). Exhibition The Dutch Design Center will exhibit the PAL CASES from the 5th till the 26th November 2006.
