Overview

We've all owned things that bring on a smile just from looking at, holding, or listening to them. The Tivoli Audio® PAL® (Portable Audio Laboratory®) radio is, for many of our customers, one of those things.

Originally conceived as a portable version of the benchmark Tivoli Audio Model One® table radio, the PAL radio has taken on a personality all its own. “You won't believe how great the speakers are on these portable AM/FM radios. You can hook up your CD or Mp3 player to share your music with your friends. They're design marvels, acoustically and aesthetically.” (Oprah Magazine)

The PAL radio has a friendly exterior, with its small stance, simple controls and weather-resistant, rubberized cabinet that comes in pink or black. It offers the same technological feature set as the Model One radio: a frequency contouring circuit for musically accurate tonal balance, 5:1 analog tuning dial, and the power to clearly deliver stations that elude many high-priced component systems. Its built-in NiMH battery recharges whenever the PAL radio is plugged in, and delivers up to 16 hours* of playback at a time. “Tivoli Audio's PAL offers arguably the finest sound and reception possible from a portable radio.” (House & Garden)

As with all Tivoli Audio products, the PAL radio is compatible with iPod and other players.

Comes with telescoping FM antenna, built-in AM antenna, replaceable NiMH battery pack, AC adapter, and a one year warranty.

The PAL also has some friendly variations. The iPAL is the same great radio with high-gloss finishes and the PAL BT turns the PAL into a portable Bluetooth speaker.

*Playback time varies depending on volume level

    SImmple, easy good sound

Got this one for my 84-year-old Mom who likes music but not a lot of buttons ... she carries it with her to work in the garden, and of course uses it in the house. Sounds good, looks good (the pink one) and works great.

    Still Amazed

I just found my original receipt I bought my pal 11 years ago. It's on every day, I use it for radio, on an iPod, as a speaker when watching shows on Hulu and as a speaker for a 26" bedroom tv. It's really never off. The sound is amazing and I still get compliments on it. Great product worth the money.

Traditional Kloss quality in portable package

If this is your fist Tivoli, consider the unequaled "classic" models with wooden cabinetry first. The Pal and iPal provide the same Henry Kloss design, audio quality and tuning, but are more vulnerable to inconsistency, depending on source material in iPods, strength of FM signal, placement of the speaker (outdoors severely limits audio projection of sound). If the original classic Tivoli products are inappropriate, take note of your needs along with the radical revolution that has brought us near-universal internet radio, wireless (Bluetooth, Air Play) connectivity, and of course the Clouds made possible by internet sound. Only then would I consider plastic, and with the awareness that the audio of internet and Bluetooth is not the equal of traditional full-frequencied sound from non-compressed sources, whether LPs or CDs or FM. One key point: rechargeable batteries to not last forever. Depending upon use, some will last longer than others. But it's surprisingly easy to disassemble the iPal and Pal and to replace the battery with a new one (readily available on the internet) for $20.

    My black PAL's

Purchased first one ca. 2005 and other one 2006. Great devices. Volume knob started to make coloration (in both) - fault were fixed by local dealer (they replaced some component inside, guarantee covered that) - voila. Both radios are in use daily basis many hours: other one in kitchen and the other one standing in my desk. Both are having original battery still. What to say, can't be more satisfied with this good product. Totally exceptional products in todays disposalbe world. Great !

    LONG term review

I've had the iPal for probably 10 years. Bought one when it first came out. I use it quite often as well. From hanging out in the back yard whle BBQing to 3 day camping trips. Even while relaxing at the beach. I've never wanted more from this device. Although it is not stereo, that really doesn't matter. You will never get true stereo from any device where the speakers are close together, so who cares. What I do care about is the audio quality, and even at high levels the PAL delivers. I also get at least 16hrs of soud. Like I said, it will last me three nights hanging around the camp site. Granted my volume is only about 1/4 of the way up (out of respect to others around me).

A few years after I got it the battery did kink out on me, but a replacement rechargable battery was only about $20 and now it is as good as new.

Also, radio reception is great. It truely does get statoins that my home system cant get. Another big plus. I use it mostly with an MP3 player though.

Less is More for the Pal

Simple and perfect. I love this radio. The sound is great. I love being able to manually tune to the stations. It is so nice to carry it from room to room. The battery lasts a surprising long time. The pink color is very fun, and easy to spot when thrown in with our camping stuff. The construction is great, esp. the resistance and calibration of the knobs. You can easily control the volume even though the knob is small. And as mentioned above, I love the tuning knob. It does an exceptional job at catching those in-between far away stations.

    Pal radio

Tivoli is to Radio like Apple is to computers . ABSOLUTELY THE BEST. I would buy no other. Someone asked what I had in my hand, I said its a radio. He could not believe the sound and said it sounded as good as his Bose and half the size! Having a rechargeable battery is extremely handy as well.

I've had my iPAL for over 6 years now and still use it every day. I tell people it was the single best purchase I've ever made. Sound quality and portability are the two qualities of this mighty little device that continue to impress me along with its brilliantly understated design. I love this radio, it's a masterpiece! Bravo
