Model Two Review
Purchased a gently used, full blown Model Two three years ago from eBay which included the main AM/FM unit, the right speaker, the CD player and the subwoofer.
Operating conditions: I live in a rural area in a brick house which is a difficult test of FM radio reception. I never listen to the AM band and therefore offer no comments about AM performance.
Strengths: Overall audio quality (CD playback and frequency response) is outstanding for a tabletop radio considering its size. FM sensitivity is very good
(distant stations tune in well.) The remote control is engineered very well. The external workmanship is beautiful with its wood cabinets, dials, and indicator lights.
Weaknesses: FM selectivity (the ability of the radio to positively tune in stations close to each other) is poor using the analog tuning dial. Tuned FM stations tend to drift and fade despite using an external antenna.
Another drawback is the modular design which requires a large number of interconnecting cables and multiple power supplies. The plastic on-off switches are another weakness: they are easily chewed up and rendered useless if roughly handled but the company's customer service is very good about replacing them.
Overall I am pleased with the Model Two and use it every day.
